The golden jubilee celebration of Bosede Idehen International Academy/Springfield Private School (BIIA/SPS) marked far more than a ceremonial anniversary; it stood as powerful evidence of five decades of consistent growth, visionary leadership, and profound influence in moulding generations of young learners.
Established in 1975 by the late Mrs Bosede Idehen, a distinguished educator and community pioneer, the institution has grown from modest beginnings as a small learning centre to become one of Lagos State’s most esteemed educational establishments. Her enduring legacy of discipline, academic excellence, and genuine care for students continues to serve as the cornerstone of the school’s philosophy.
The institution now flourishes under the energetic stewardship of Mrs Maureen Idehen Ovabor (RPh), a U.S.-based pharmacist and education champion. Her dedication to delivering quality education and fostering community development has infused the school with fresh innovation and strategic direction, setting the stage for even greater accomplishments in the coming years.
The Golden Jubilee festivities, carrying the theme “A Journey of Legacy, Excellence, and Growth”, unfolded over seven memorable days filled with meaningful, community-focused programming. The celebration featured free medical outreach services, community support initiatives, inter-school athletic competitions, debate tournaments, and heartfelt alumni gatherings. Each activity reinforced the school’s comprehensive educational philosophy that nurtures students intellectually, physically, and spiritually.
During the grand finale ceremony, Mrs Maureen Idehen Ovabor conveyed her profound gratitude to the faculty, administrative team, and broader community for their invaluable contributions to the institution’s achievements.
“This celebration is not just about the past; it’s about our commitment to the future. My mother’s vision laid the foundation, and we are building upon it with modern teaching standards, digital learning integration, and renewed community engagement,” she emphasised.
Chief Dan Ovabora, serving as Chairman of the Occasion, commended the school’s exceptional contributions to education and development throughout Alimosho, observing that the 50-year journey has significantly transformed Abule Egba and neighbouring communities. He applauded the management’s commitment to maintaining rigorous standards while encouraging continued innovation to address the changing educational environment.
Demonstrating its commitment to truly inclusive education, Springfield Private School and Bosede Idehen International Academy have launched a groundbreaking initiative — the Special Education Needs (SEN) Department. This significant development embodies the school’s core belief that every child deserves educational opportunity.
“Special Care for Special Minds! Every child can learn, just not in the same way,” the school’s mission statement declares. “At SPS & BIIA, we believe that every child is gifted — they only open their gifts at different times and in different ways. Our inclusive learning environment is built on love, patience, and understanding. We provide personalised support, specialised instruction, and a nurturing space where children with special needs can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”
The SEN Department features state-of-the-art learning resources and specially designed facilities to address the distinctive requirements of children facing developmental or learning challenges. The school has begun accepting enrollment for special needs learners, reinforcing its dedication to ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, receives the opportunity to flourish both academically and personally.
Throughout its history, Bosede Idehen International Academy/Springfield Private School has cultivated outstanding graduates who now contribute as leaders, professionals, and innovators across diverse sectors. The school’s integration of Nigerian and American curricula delivers a well-rounded education that equips students for success in the global arena.
