Eight years after former President Goodluck Jonathan’s exit from office—characterized by the signatories as a “disgrace”—Ijaw leaders are determined not to remain passive in the face of new challenges. They frame the current situation as part of a broader pattern of federal government oppression against the Ijaw people.
The statement emphasizes resource control as a central grievance, arguing that while oil from Ijaw territories fuels national development, the Ijaw people themselves are denied meaningful power and representation.
