IJAW NATION WILL STAND AGAINST THIS INJUSTICE, COLLATION WARNS

The current crisis in Rivers State represents more than a political dispute—it’s being viewed as a direct assault on the Ijaw nation. Representatives from Egbama, Gbaramatu, Isaba, Ogbe-Ijoh, and other Ijaw communities have united in solidarity with their Rivers State counterparts, declaring their intent to resist what they perceive as systematic marginalization.

Eight years after former President Goodluck Jonathan’s exit from office—characterized by the signatories as a “disgrace”—Ijaw leaders are determined not to remain passive in the face of new challenges. They frame the current situation as part of a broader pattern of federal government oppression against the Ijaw people.

The statement emphasizes resource control as a central grievance, arguing that while oil from Ijaw territories fuels national development, the Ijaw people themselves are denied meaningful power and representation. The exclusion of Ijaw individuals from key petroleum leadership positions is cited as evidence of deliberate marginalization.

This call to action extends beyond Rivers State Governor Fubara’s situation, urging all Ijaw communities—from Delta and Bayelsa to Ondo, Lagos, and beyond—to unite in what they describe as an existential struggle. The representatives warn they are prepared to take significant actions, including economic disruption, to defend their interests.

The declaration concludes with a powerful assertion of Ijaw determination: “This oppression must cease; the Ijaw nation will stand and defend its land. Asawana, wana.”
