France forward, Kyllian Mbappe has explained why Portugal star, Joao Felix, missed his penalty in the game against France on Friday night.
Les Bleus qualified for the semi-final of the competition, by securing a 5-4 penalty shootout win against Portugal after both teams played out 0-0 in 120 minutes.
Both sides converted their spot-kicks except for Joao Felix, who missed Portugal’s fourth spot kick.
Mbappe came up with a bizarre reason for Felix missing the penalty, explaining that France goalkeeper was a ‘scary’ proposition for the player:
“He’s scary. I don’t have the exact explanation, but when João Félix hits the post, it’s because he thinks there’s a goalkeeper in front of him who’s going to get it. We were successful, but a big part of that was down to Mike.”
France will play Spain in the semi-final of the tournament on Tuesday.
