Nigeria’s new Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has officially assumed duties after presenting his Letters of Credence to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The credential presentation ceremony, held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at the UN Secretariat, marks the formal recognition of Ambassador Ibrahim as Nigeria’s chief envoy to the global body. The diplomatic tradition signifies his authority to speak and act on behalf of Nigeria in all United Nations engagements.
With his accreditation complete, Nigeria is poised to deepen its engagement at the UN, advancing its positions on global peace and security, sustainable development, and international cooperation, while reinforcing its longstanding commitment to multilateral diplomacy.
