The Federal Government of Nigeria, the People’s Republic of China, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists have urged Nigerians to embrace the Chinese language, describing it as a strategic tool for unlocking global opportunities and driving economic growth.
The call was made in Abuja during the celebration of International Chinese Language Day, which brought together government officials, diplomats, and media stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Cultural Counselor at the Chinese Embassy and Director of the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Yang Jianxing, said the Chinese language remains a vital bridge connecting cultures, economies, and people across the world.
He described the language as a heritage spanning over 5,000 years, noting that it continues to foster global understanding and cooperation.

Yang added that more than 200 million people across over 190 countries are currently learning Chinese, highlighting its growing global influence and relevance.
According to him, acquiring the language gives Nigerians a competitive advantage in trade, education, and international partnerships, especially with China.
He also pointed out that Chinese philosophy promotes harmony and mutual respect—values that closely align with Nigeria’s communal way of life.
The Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, represented by Director of News, Suleiman Musa, emphasized the importance of language in strengthening diplomacy, media collaboration, and bilateral relations between both nations.
Similarly, NUJ FCT Chairman, Grace Ike, described the initiative as a strategic cultural link that will deepen ties, enhance communication, and promote shared development goals between Nigeria and China.
She added that stronger linguistic connections would drive innovation, improve mutual understanding, and support long-term prosperity for both countries.
