SGF AKUME INAUGURATES TECHNICAL COMMITTEE ON $200BN INTEGRATED GAS, POWER, RAIL PROJECT

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has inaugurated a high-level technical committee to review a proposed $200 billion Integrated Gas, Power and High-Speed Rail Project.

The initiative is designed to transform Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape by combining gas development, power generation, transmission, and a nationwide rail system aimed at boosting economic growth and national integration.

Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja on Thursday, Akume said the project, which includes a proposed 4,000-kilometre high-speed rail network, could connect major economic hubs such as Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt.

He noted that the committee’s mandate is to thoroughly assess all technical, legal, financial and environmental aspects of the proposal, verify claims by promoters, and provide evidence-based recommendations to government.

The committee comprises permanent secretaries from key ministries, heads of regulatory and security agencies, as well as institutions including the CBN, EFCC, NFIU, DSS,ICRC,DMO, NIA and other relevant federal bodies, with the OSGF serving as secretariat.

In Presenting the project, De-Sadel Nigeria Limited CEO, Mr. Samuel Ukoh, said the rail system would significantly reduce travel time across cities and include about 3,500 megawatts of power generation to support operations.
