Burna Boy And VDM Are The New Eedris Abdulkareem – M.I. Abaga

Popular rapper M.I. Abaga has hailed Eedris Abdulkareem, Burna Boy and VeryDarkMan for their shared qualities of bravery and activism.

He recently praised Eedris Abdulkareem’s fearless approach to addressing societal issues with his songs.

Speaking on the Menism podcast, M.I said that the impact Eedris Abdulkareem had with his music back then can be compared to what Burna Boy is enjoying nowadays.

According to him, Eedris’ hit song “Mr Lecturer” will forever be the epitome of conscious artistry, and he won’t forget how almost everything the artist was putting out became a chorus on the street back in the day.

“It’s a different thing when you are a young rapper and you look up and you see Eldee The Don. Then there’s Ruggedman, who brought a new flay to the rap industry. There is also this guy called Eedris Abdulkareem. He was just like Rema.

When you see Rema now, that was the energy that Eedris had back in the days. He was the Burna Boy of then,” he said.

He further noted that the “Jaga Jaga” crooner had the culture on lock that it felt like he was the one Nigerians wanted to listen to.

M.I concluded by saying that the Nigerian music industry will never forget Eedris’ impact, especially after giving listeners so many relatable songs to last them a lifetime.

“Rema has it but now that I think about it, I would say Eedris was more like Burna and VDM.

He would just say a thing and put it out there and everybody will be singing it. He has a song called ‘Mr Lecturer’ and so many other conscious tracks,” he added.
