Popular Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo has been pictured for the first time since missing the funeral of Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away following a traffic accident last week.
Recall that the Liverpool forward and his younger brother, Andre Silva, were killed when their car crashed last week in Northern Spain.
The pair were buried at Gondomar cemetery in Portugal on Saturday afternoon, with many of Jota’s Portuguese international teammates showing up to pay their last respects to the footballer.
However, one major absentee was the Portugal national team captain himself, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Reports have said that CR7 didn’t attend the funeral due to previous tragedies that he had suffered in his life.
One day after the burial, Ronaldo was pictured holidaying on a yacht in Mallorca with his partner Georgina Rodriguez.
According to Portuguese media, the 40-year-old striker was on board the yacht when many had expected him to fly to Gondomar to honour his late teammate.
Further reports alleged that the former Manchester United forward opted against attending the gathering due to sensitivities surrounding the death of his father, Jose Diniz Aveiro, who passed in September 2005, when Ronaldo was just 20 years old.
Sources said that while Ronaldo was sad to hear of Jota’s passing, he decided to avoid his funeral so his presence wouldn’t overshadow the reason for the gathering.
