‘We Will Name Names’ — Group Alleges Foreign Lobbying to Discredit Northern Leaders

A civil society group, The Citizen, has alleged that some opposition figures are behind a coordinated effort to discredit key political allies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the North.

Speaking with journalists, Comrade Bulus Ishaya claimed that certain opposition elements had lobbied a United Kingdom-based lawmaker, Kambila Daniels, to “demarket” prominent northern figures, including Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

According to Ishaya, the alleged move is aimed at weakening the growing political influence and renewed momentum currently being witnessed in the North-West region.

He described the development as a reflection of rising political desperation, warning that such actions could deepen divisions and distract from governance.

Ishaya further disclosed that The Citizen would hold a press conference on Friday, where it plans to address what it described as increasing politically motivated campaigns.

The briefing, he said, will feature leaders of various ethnic groups across Nigeria and will shed more light on the alleged activities.

“We will be addressing Nigerians on how desperate some individuals have become because of politics. At the appropriate time, names of those involved in this alleged lobbying effort will be made public,” he said.

He added that the group is committed to promoting unity and transparency in Nigeria’s political space, urging stakeholders to avoid actions that could inflame tensions.

Efforts to independently verify the allegations or get reactions from the individuals mentioned were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
