Frank Lampard has been named the new manager of Coventry City, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Championship club.
The announcement came on Thursday, following the dismissal of former manager Mark Robins on November 7.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Coventry City said, “A new chapter in Coventry. Welcome, Frank.”
Lampard takes over a team currently placed 17th in the Championship table, 10 points shy of the playoff spots. The former Chelsea midfielder and club legend brings a wealth of managerial experience, having previously led Chelsea, Derby County, and Everton. His most recent role was as interim manager for Chelsea in 2023, after serving as the club’s head coach from 2019 to 2021.
Mark Robins, who was dismissed after Coventry suffered their seventh defeat in 14 league games, leaves behind a notable legacy. Robins first managed Coventry from 2012 to 2013 and returned in 2017 to oversee a remarkable transformation. Under his guidance, the Sky Blues rose from League Two to the Championship and narrowly missed out on Premier League promotion in the 2023 playoff final, losing to Luton Town on penalties.
Lampard now faces the challenge of revitalizing Coventry’s season and steering the team toward a potential playoff push.
