Mother of revered Fuji Music Legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), Alhaja Halima Shadiya Anifowoshe has passed on at the ripe age of 105, AKNN reports.
This comes shortly after the death of his former wife, Yewande Marshal, who passed away in Canada after a brief illness.
Yewande Marshal, who was living in Canada at the time of her death, was reportedly receiving treatment at a hospital in Toronto before her passing in mid-January 2025. She was known to have maintained a cordial relationship with the musician even after their separation.
The loss of both his former wife and mother in close succession has cast a shadow over the household of the Mayegun of Yorubaland. While still processing the grief of losing Yewande, the music maestro now faces the departure of his centenarian mother, Alhaja Halima Shadiya Anifowoshe.
Alhaja Anifowoshe lived to witness her son’s remarkable journey from his humble beginnings to becoming one of Nigeria’s most celebrated musicians. Her life spanned over a century, during which she saw her son rise to prominence, revolutionizing the Fuji music genre and earning prestigious titles, including his appointment as the Mayegun of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo.
K1 De Ultimate, known for his emotional performances and deep connection to his family, has often incorporated personal experiences into his music. These recent losses are particularly poignant for the musician who has frequently acknowledged the significant roles both women played in his life and career.
While funeral arrangements for Alhaja Anifowoshe will follow Islamic traditions, the family continues to receive condolences from fans, fellow musicians, and prominent figures in Nigerian society. The double tragedy has united the entertainment industry in showing support for one of its most respected figures during this challenging period.
In a related development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a now viral video reached out to King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal to Commiserate with him over the passing of his beloved mother. The Fuji star was seen relishing his relationship with the President, saying he cannot suffer under the current administration.
Alhaja Anifowoshe will be buried 4pm today.
