The Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) of Nigeria Customs Service, Mohammed Abba-Kura, has revealed the organization’s strategic move towards leveraging data analytics to enhance secure and efficient trade facilitation in its operations. Speaking at the ongoing Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC’s) Conference in Lagos, Abba-Kura, who oversees enforcement, investigations, and inspections at the customs headquarters in Abuja, emphasized the role of data analytics and new technologies in modernizing and streamlining service operations.
According to Abba-Kura, data analytics provides real-time information for planning, tracking, and improving revenue prediction and generation. He underscored the significance of the customs conference, stating that it serves as an opportunity for stakeholders to assess performance, make necessary corrections, and enhance overall service delivery.
The DCG emphasized the commitment of the customs service to collaboration, both domestically and internationally, to further strengthen its operations and establish vital partnerships. Abba-Kura commended the Customs Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, describing him as a good listener, straightforward, innovative, a team player, and deeply passionate about the success of the service.
Assuring Nigerians and President Bola Tinubu, Abba-Kura expressed confidence that the new leadership at the customs service, under the guidance of Adeniyi, will not disappoint in the discharge of their duties. He noted the resuscitation of the CG Conference after an eleven-year suspension and extended gratitude to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, captains of industries, and traditional rulers for boosting the morale of customs service officers and men through their presence.
Reporting on the event, Alutanews highlighted the significance of technology in global customs operations, echoing the Customs CG’s optimism that this year’s conference theme would establish guiding standards and principles, propelling the Nigerian government towards new frontiers in customs operations. The CG emphasized the imperative for the Customs Service to streamline and integrate its services to meet global service delivery expectations and international standards.
In a goodwill message, the Director-General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, commended the Nigerian Customs for its dedicated efforts in facilitating the adoption of data analytics and e-customs operations.
