African Men And Independent Women Can’t Love Each Other’s Strengths Without Feeling Threatened – IK Ogbonna

Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has spoken up about the secret power struggles affecting modern marriages.

He recently shared that these power struggles are seriously affecting marriages that involve African men and independent women.

Speaking via his Instagram story, IK revealed that several romantic relationships that begin with mutual admiration often spiral into silent battles for control, identity, and dominance.

According to him, the power struggle is not always down to a lack of love, but due to unspoken societal and cultural pressures that end up wrecking the home.

“It doesn’t always start as conflict. In fact, it often begins with admiration. He is drawn to her strength. She is attracted to his confidence.

But somewhere along the line, ego meets ego, pride meets independence, culture meets ambition,” he said.

Ogbonna further noted that while many African men are raised to lead, a lot of them are rarely taught how to coexist with a woman who can lead as well.

The actor concluded by saying that such an imbalance only end up triggering unspoken tension that leads to emotional distance among couples.

“So what starts as love becomes a power struggle. Not because they don’t love each other. But no one taught them to love each other’s strengths without feeling threatened,” he added.
