MTN Implements 50% Tariff Hike on Data Subscriptions

MTN Telecommunications has begun implementing the Federal Government-approved 50% tariff hike on data subscriptions, with prices increasing across various plans.

The revised MTN data prices show significant increase, as MTN’s 1.8GB monthly plan now goes for N1,500.

This replaces the previous 1.5GB plan priced at N1,000.

The 20GB plan has been adjusted to N7,500, up from N5,500, while the 15GB plan now costs N6,500, a rise from N4,500.

The tariff hike was approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Indeed, all the telecos, including Airtel, Globacom, and 9mobile, are taken steps to implement the approved tariff hike, with MTN leading the way in the implementation of the changes.

The price increase also affects text messages, with telecom operators now charging N6.00 per text, up from N4.00.

The NCC had cited rising operational costs and the need to sustain the industry as reasons for approving the tariff adjustment
