Power Minister Admits Supply Disruptions, Assures Nigerians of Quick Restoration

The Federal Ministry of Power has acknowledged concerns over recent electricity supply disruptions affecting several parts of the country, particularly Lagos, Abuja, Ogun, Kwara, and Oyo states.

In a statement, the Ministry noted that the affected areas had recently witnessed significant improvements in power supply before experiencing the current outages. It expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to households, businesses, and public institutions, assuring Nigerians that efforts are underway to restore normal service.

“We recognize the impact that every hour without electricity has on families, businesses, and communities, and we do not take these challenges lightly,” the Ministry said.

The Federal Ministry of Power has assured Nigerians that ongoing electricity supply disruptions across parts of the country are temporary, attributing the outages to operational and generation challenges while promising swift restoration of service.

According to preliminary assessments, the disruptions were not caused by any major or systemic failure of the national grid. Rather, they resulted from maintenance and operational challenges within parts of the power value chain.

The Ministry explained that a reduction in power generation, linked to constraints in gas supply to thermal power plants and lower output from hydroelectric stations due to reduced water inflows into reservoirs, also contributed to the situation.

It, however, assured the public that corrective measures are being implemented to address the challenges.

Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, is reportedly working closely with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), and electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) to accelerate the restoration of stable power supply.

The Minister has directed relevant stakeholders to resolve operational constraints, expedite ongoing maintenance works, and ensure regular communication with the public on restoration efforts.

Reaffirming its commitment to improving electricity reliability across the country, the Ministry said the Federal Government remains focused on consolidating recent gains in the power sector and delivering better service to Nigerians.

The Ministry also appealed for patience and understanding, assuring citizens that further updates would be provided as restoration efforts progress.
