The Federal Government has removed Ohieku Salami, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, citing misconduct and breach of established procedures.
This decision was announced on Wednesday by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, through a statement issued by Folashade Boriowo, Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Education. According to the statement, Salami’s dismissal followed several unprofessional actions, including the improper suspension of the university’s Vice-Chancellor without adhering to due process.
The ministry noted that despite interventions and formal directives to reverse the suspension, Salami failed to comply. Instead, he reportedly engaged in abusive and threatening behavior towards ministry officials, including the Permanent Secretary.
Dr. Alausa expressed concern over Salami’s conduct, stating that it undermined the ministry’s authority and jeopardized the university’s governance and stability.
“In light of these actions, the minister has directed the appointment of a new Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman for the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo. This move aims to restore proper governance and ensure the university operates with accountability, due process, and adherence to the rule of law,” the statement concluded.
