Umueke Progressive Union Elects Samuel Moses-Opara As President-General

History was made on October 3, 2026, as members of the Umueke Progressive Union (UPU) in Umuahii-Mbieri Ancient Kingdom gathered to elect a new set of leaders to steer the affairs of the union.

At the conclusion of the voting and counting process, Mr. Samuel Okwuchukwu Moses-Opara emerged as the new President-General of the Umueke Progressive Union, defeating his closest rival, Chief Osita Onuoha, by 3 votes.

The election produced a new executive council comprising 8 members who will oversee the affairs of the union and represent the interests of its members and the wider Umueke community.

The newly elected executives are:

1. Mr. Samuel Okwuchukwu Moses-Opara — President-General

2. Mr. Innocent Elijah — Vice President-General

3. Mr. Achuko Kelechi — Secretary

4. Mrs. Chinonye Amechi — Assistant Secretary

5. Mr. Emenike Achuko — Treasurer

6. Evangelist Chukwuemeka Jeff Achuko — Public Relations Officer

7. Mr. Udobueze Nwaobi — Financial Secretary

8. Mr. Chidera Elijah — Chief Provost

The emergence of the new executive has been described by members of the community as a welcome development, with expectations that the leadership will promote unity, progress and the collective interests of the Umueke people.

The October 3 election marks the beginning of a new leadership phase for the Umueke Progressive Union, with the newly elected executives expected to assume responsibility for advancing the union’s programmes and community development initiatives.
