Chelsea Football Club have signed João Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion. Both clubs recently made the announcement via their social media accounts, and fans have been reacting.
The deal was worth a total of £60 million ($82m), and the 23-year-old has already signed an eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Reacting via a press statement, Pedro revealed that he is happy to sign for a big club like Chelsea, and he wants to win the top trophies in the near future.
“Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history. They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”
Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler wished the Brazilian forward good luck at his new club, saying that it is a good move for all parties.
Fabian stated that the deal is a brilliant return on investment for Brighton, stressing that the club has a lot of players who are ready to take Pedro’s place in the starting lineup.
He concluded by saying that João gave the club a lot of amazing moments ever since he joined, and Brighton Football Club thanks him for his service.
“This is a good move for all parties. It’s an excellent deal for the club, and a good return on a significant investment in an area of the pitch where we have a lot of competition and are already well served in terms of our attacking talent.
It’s also an exciting move for João: it gives him the opportunity to play Champions League football this coming season, and he will of course be keen to cement his position in the Brazil team ahead of the World Cup next summer.
João has given us some wonderful moments — during my time and before I came to the club — so on behalf of everyone I would like to thank him for his service over the past two seasons and wish him the best for the future,” he added.
