The federal government has powered the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) with a one-megawatt solar plant to provide an alternative electricity supply for efficient service delivery.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said this at the handover ceremony in Abuja on Monday.
The project, developed by the Ministry of Power, is part of the federal government’s solar PV initiative to power public buildings nationwide.
Mr Adelabu said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transitioning to clean energy and powering public institutions sustainably.
The minister, represented by Mamman Mahmuda, permanent secretary in the ministry, described the project as a commitment to energy security, environmental sustainability, and cost-effective governance.
“By powering key government infrastructure with solar energy, we are demonstrating the potential of renewable energy in achieving universal electricity access in a sustainable manner,” he said.
He added that the HCSF office, being the hub of public administration and policy formulation, required an uninterrupted power supply to ensure efficient service delivery.
“It is a known fact that the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation is the nerve centre of public administration in Nigeria and the epicentre of policy development and implementation.
“The benefit of this initiative, among others, will reduce the cost of electricity from the grid. It will reduce operational costs by reducing diesel consumption,” he added.
The head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry of Power for the successful execution of the project.
Ms Walson-Jack stated that the project reflected a shared commitment to enhancing service delivery and promoting sustainable energy use in the civil service.
