FG APPROVES ALLOWANCE HIKE TO BOOST CIVIL SERVANTS’ WELFARE AND MORALE.

The Federal Government has approved a significant upward review of peculiar allowances and welfare packages for civil servants, a decision expected to improve earnings and strengthen motivation across the public sector.

She explained that the approval followed deliberations and endorsement by the Federal Executive Council as part of ongoing reforms targeted at repositioning the civil service for better efficiency and service delivery.
According to her, the revised allowances—covering areas such as hazard, responsibility, and other job-specific benefits—are designed to reflect current economic realities and ease the financial pressure faced by government workers. The adjustment is also intended to enhance productivity, reduce dissatisfaction, and promote a more committed workforce within ministries, departments, and agencies.
Walson-Jack noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts by the government to modernize the public service, improve staff welfare, and align compensation structures with the rising cost of living. She added that the reforms would be implemented in phases, with clear guidelines to ensure transparency and accountability.
The approval comes at a time when many civil servants have been grappling with inflation and declining purchasing power. Analysts believe the move could help stabilize morale within the workforce, though its long-term impact will depend on consistent implementation and overall economic conditions.
Government officials have assured that further measures are being considered to sustain improvements in workers’ welfare and strengthen the capacity of the civil service to deliver on national development priorities.
