A cast member of reality TV show, Real Housewives of Lagos, Mariam Timmer, has stated that she views her time on the show as a job and takes it seriously.
According to her, she embraces change, believing that “nothing is constant” and that each season brings “different characters, strategies, and experiences.” While she cherishes her original cast members, she remains committed, stating, “I don’t give up, and I don’t drop out. I like to see things through and know that I’ve been a huge part of this Real Housewives of Lagos franchise.”
To her, RHL is more than just a show. “I see Real Housewives of Lagos as a job. It’s not my everyday life or lifestyle but a job. So, in everything we do when it comes to our job, we have to put our 100% in it, and that’s how I go about life.”
Known for her outspoken nature, Timmer stands by her words, stating, “Anything I say, I say it, and I fully take responsibility for it, either good or bad.” While she acknowledges that words “are like eggs” and cannot be taken back, she is open to apologising if her delivery is off. However, she remains firm in her stance when necessary.
Reflecting on her journey on the show, Timmer values perseverance and does not give up on projects she is passionate about. While cast members have the choice to return or leave, she says, “I would have loved for the old members to still be around and probably add new members that we have now.” Ultimately, she recognises that the decision lies with the channel or the individuals.
Viewing the show as both entertainment and work, she ensures professionalism, saying, “I handle RHL the same way I run my company and deal with my PR clients.” If she ever decides to leave, she insists it will be on “a cordial term,” maintaining strong professional ethics.
When asked about criticism and negative comments, Timmer acknowledges the scrutiny that comes with being a public figure. However, she remains unfazed by public perception. “I don’t check the comment section. I don’t do social media banters.”
She also refuses to judge people based on online gossip. “I don’t judge people based on what people say about them on blogs because I don’t know it.” She added, “You can badmouth me; you can do whatever you want behind my back. But one thing you have to understand is that behaviour is like pregnancy. One day, it will come out. You can’t hide it for too long.”
Understanding the nature of reality TV, Timmer allows viewers to express their opinions freely. “If you feel like you want to express your opinion and my Instagram comment section is where you feel like you want to express it, and I provided a platform for you to express this, my love, my Instagram page can be your therapist.”
