Lagos unveils plan to promote sustainable energy solutions

The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, has unveiled plans to promote sustainable energy solutions with the aim of eradicating persistent energy supply crisis, which is amplified by the volume of dirty fuel deployed and blackouts.

This initiative was launched on Friday at a media briefing of the maiden three days energy summit, tagged “Journey to Energy for All.”

The submit billed for April 15th to 17th at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, will see stakeholders in the industry brainstorm to make Lagos a 24-hour economy and a choice destination for investment, entertainment and social activities.

Addressing the media, Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, disclosed that the event would enhance policy development, capacity building, community engagement, research and analysis, partnership and collaboration, regulatory activities, monitoring and evaluation and targeted interventions.

He further hinted that the summit was aimed at driving the adaptation of innovative energy solution which will promote sustainable mineral resources development while focusing on the state electricity law of 2024.

“The ministry is proud to be engaged in activities of this magnitude. Let me remind you of the first audacious attempt at resolving the energy challenges was the Enron Badges IPP initiated by the then Governor Bola Tinubu on December 6, 1999 and who is also the President that signed off the Electricity Bill that empowers sub nationals to have regulatory oversight over electricity in their respective states,” Ogunleye said.

Overtime, he said the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has evolved as the apex organ of government to ensure the vision of “Energy for All” is realised with the target of making the city a 24-hour economy and a choice destination for investment, entertainment and social activities.
