Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong has been left shocked after several omissions from the Super Eagles list.
Troost -Ekong has not been called up by Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro since the side’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in September.
His international future remains uncertain, as he is now set to be excluded from Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 AFCON finals starting next January in Cote d’Ivoire.
According to the defender, he’s still very much available for selection.
“No, I haven’t retired from international football. I think it’s too early for me to make that decision. I’m still very willing, and yes, supporting the team. I’ve been following the games like always. I think I have been part of the squad for like eight years now,” Troost-EKong told Soccernet.
He added: “It has been a bit of a surprise for me. But the best I can do is to work hard in my club. I think I am showing that I can still be of great help for the team.
“Yeah, we will see what happens with AFCON. But I’m still very willing, and I want the best for Nigeria.”
Coach Peseiro has already submitted his provisional list for the biennial competition.
A final 27-man list is expected to be submitted to the Confederation of African Football, CAF, by January 7, 2023.
