Tinubu Appoints New Board Members to Securities and Exchange Commission

In a recent development, President Bola Tinubu has given his nod to the appointment of prominent Nigerian professionals to the Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, disclosed the names of the appointees on April 19, 2024.

The newly appointed members are:

Mr. Mairiga Aliyu Katuka — Chairman
Mr. Emomotimi Agama — Director-General
Frana Chukwuogor — Executive Commissioner (Legal and Enforcement)
Mr. Bola Ajomale — Executive Commissioner (Operations)
Mrs. Samiya Hassan Usman — Executive Commissioner (Corporate Services)
Mr. Lekan Belo — Non-Executive Commissioner
Mr. Kasimu Garba Kurfi — Non-Executive Commissioner
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the diverse expertise of the appointees would be instrumental in fulfilling the commission’s core mandate of fostering a dynamic, fair, transparent, and efficient capital market. The President emphasized the importance of bolstering investor confidence and fostering economic development through effective regulation and development of the capital market.
