Two Arrested for Alleged Stealing of N10m Building Materials

Umeachusi Abuchi and Okorie Ikechukwu have been apprehended and charged in Lagos State for their alleged involvement in the theft of N10 million worth of building materials belonging to Ijeoma Udigbo.

The incident reportedly occurred on Okoye Street in the Bucknor area of Ejigbo, Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspects conspired with one John Osita, who has also been charged in court, and others still at large, to steal the items on December 9, 2024.

Upon the discovery of the theft, the matter was promptly reported to the Ejigbo Division Police.

Following an investigation, the Police found Abuchi and Ikechukwu culpable for their alleged conduct and placed them in custody at the station for further questioning.

They have since been charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for their alleged offenses, which carry the potential for multiple years of imprisonment.

During their arraignment, the two defendants entered a plea of not guilty to the charges brought against them.

In response, the prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, requested a hearing date to provide the Police with an opportunity to present evidence supporting their allegations.

Presiding Magistrate Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman granted bail to the accused in the sum of N2 million, requiring two sureties with equivalent financial backing.

Additionally, the sureties were ordered to demonstrate proof of income and tax payment, with their addresses to be verified by the Court.

The case has been adjourned until March 25, 2025, for further proceedings. In the interim, Abuchi and Ikechukwu will remain in custody at the Kirikiri correctional center in Lagos until they fulfill the conditions of their bail.
