President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bayo Ojulari as the new Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), replacing Mele Kyari.
Key Changes at NNPCL
On Wednesday, President Tinubu announced major changes at NNPCL, removing both Mele Kyari and Pius Akinyelure, the board chairman. Other board members, who were appointed in November 2023, were also dismissed.
The new 11-member board includes:
Bayo Ojulari – Group CEO
Ahmadu Musa Kida – Non-Executive Chairman
Adedapo Segun – Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Six Non-Executive Directors, representing different regions in Nigeria:
Bello Rabiu (North West)
Yusuf Usman (North East)
Babs Omotowa (North Central)
Austin Avuru (South-South)
David Ige (South West)
Henry Obih (South East)
Lydia Shehu Jafiya – Representative of the Ministry of Finance
Aminu Said Ahmed – Representative of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources
These appointments take effect immediately.
Who is Bayo Ojulari?
1. State of Origin: Ojulari is from Kwara State.
2. Education: He studied Mechanical Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
3. Previous Job: Before this role, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company.
4. Major Deal: His company led the $2.4 billion acquisition of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC).

5. Work Experience:
Started his career as a Process Engineer at Elf Aquitaine.
Joined Shell Nigeria in 1991 as a Production Technologist.
Worked in Nigeria, Europe, and the Middle East in various positions, including Strategic Planner, Field Developer, and Asset Manager.
6. Former Managing Director: He led Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) in 2015.
