Nigerian youths have expressed support for Bello Matawalle, describing him as a leader who connects with the people and understands their needs.
The show of support was observed during the recently concluded national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where groups of young people gathered at different locations in Abuja, chanting and displaying solidarity for the former Zamfara State governor.
According to observations at the venue, youths from various states—particularly from Zamfara State—were seen expressing admiration for Matawalle, who currently serves as Minister of State for Defence.
Some delegates from Zamfara were also heard discussing internal party matters, with a few expressing concerns about past decisions regarding the party’s governorship candidate in the state.
Across key areas around the convention grounds, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs junction, the Federal Ministry of Finance axis, and Unity Fountain, different groups of supporters gathered in noticeable numbers to show their backing for Matawalle.
Several of the youths described him as a philanthropist and a compassionate leader, noting his contributions to youth and community development in Zamfara State.
They highlighted his involvement in empowerment programmes, skill acquisition initiatives, and educational support efforts across the state’s local government areas.
Some delegates also pointed to his role in efforts aimed at improving peace and stability in the state, as well as his focus on human capital development.
Attempts to get official comments from some delegates on the political situation in Zamfara, including questions around Governor Dauda Lawal, were unsuccessful, as they declined to speak on record.
