Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated to the Wall Street Journal that investigators believe Robinson was “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” though he provided no specific evidence. This contrasts with other media reports suggesting the investigation is exploring whether Robinson was motivated by Kirk’s views on gender identity, potentially in defense of a transgender roommate.
The response from political figures has been mixed. Following the shooting, some conservatives initially called for severe punishments.
