A popular proverb states that “the eyes are the window to the soul.” In a display of love for humanity, a Lagos based NGO, Lamex Charity Foundation recently held a three days free optometry outreach to residents in different parts of Lagos.
AKNN correspondent reports that the free optometry service is in commemoration of the 60th birthday of Alhaji Olanrewaju Rasaq Akani Mashika, the founder of Lamex Charity Foundation.
Our correspondent gathered that the three days event, which was held between Friday, June 7 and Sunday, and 8, include free eye screening, surgical operations, prescription, and gift of free eyes glasses and medications.
The event held in Agege Local government secretariat and Onigbongbo Local government secretariat has over 5000 beneficiaries in attendance. AKNN reporter present at the venue reports that the orderliness and professionalism of doctors, nurses, and stakeholders at the secretariat was top-notch.
During a visit to Abule Onigbagbo Primary Health Care Center which was specifically used to attend to patients marked for surgery during the 3 days medical outreach, over 2000 patients were operated on and were given free eye glasses after the operation and given guidelines to prevent reoccurrence.
AKNN correspondent at the Agege Local government reported a massive turnout in comparison to Onigbongbo LCDA as beneficiaries shower encomium on the celebrant.
The Onigbongbo LCDA Supervisor for Health, Hon Glory George who spoke to our correspondent, said ‘ I want to Thank Alhaji Masha for this kin dog projects, it’s worthy and it shows that he has the less populace and the masses at heart. He could have chosen to celebrate his birthday with his fellow bigwits but decided to reach out to the poor masses who might not even have eaten talk less of thinking about their own poor sight, I give kudos to him and as you can see without prejudice, people from various tribes , age and class are here and some have been transported immediately for surgery.
Beneficiaries at the venue who got their free eye glasses and those who had surgical operations couldn’t hide their joy as many would not have been able to afford it if not for the opportunity that presenter itself courtesy of Lamex Charity Foundation.
