LASUSTECH Student Falls from Hostel Building

A tragic incident occurred at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) on Saturday when a first-year mathematics student, Emmanuel Nweke, tragically fell from a two-storey hostel building in Ikorodu.

The incident took place around 4:00 PM when Nweke, seeking fresh air amid a prolonged power outage, stepped onto the balcony corridor of his apartment at Lasunwon First Gate, an area primarily populated by students.

According to eyewitnesses, Nweke leaned on the balcony railing before losing his balance and falling from the dilapidated building, suffering a fatal head injury.

Despite the efforts of fellow students who rushed him to a nearby general hospital, the young man, originally from Anambra State, sadly succumbed to his injuries.

In response to the tragic event, the distressed building was shut down to prevent further accidents, and the landlord was apprehended by officers from the Ikorodu Police Division on Sagamu Road.

In a phone interview, Sadiq Adams Kiakia, a student of LASUSTECH, and the vice chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee, expressed strong condemnation of the university’s negligence.

Kiakia attributed the tragic death of the first-year student, Emmanuel Nweke, to the school’s failure to provide adequate accommodations and stable power supply
