Nine-time champions Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been drawn alongside Algeria, Botswana and Tunisia for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) group stage in Morocco next year.
The draw for the 2024 WAFCON was conducted at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in Sale, Morocco, with the 12 participating nations grouped into three groups of four teams each.
Ordinarily, the tournament was supposed to take place this year, but the Confederation of African Football rescheduled it for 5-26 July 2025 due to the unavailability of dates on the football calendar schedules.
Following the draw, hosts and 2022 WAFCON finalists Morocco lead the way in Group A, and they are joined by the third-place winners of the tournament, Zambia.
Senegal and DR Congo are also placed in the group.
In Group B, Nigeria, Algeria, Botswana, and Tunisia will slug it out among themselves for the two quarterfinal spots from the group, with the Falcons being the heavy favourites to win the group.
Defending champions South Africa are drawn in Group C alongside three-time runners-up Ghana, Tanzania and Mali.
Mali finished fourth in the 2018 tournament, while Tanzania would be making their only second appearance following their group stage exit in 2010.
