The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has appointed former Minister of State for Defence and ex-Senator, Musiliu Obanikoro, as the Director-General of his campaign for the 2027 governorship election.

The appointment was announced during an expanded meeting of the campaign council in Lagos, where Hamzat unveiled key members of his campaign structure as preparations gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party sources said the move forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the campaign’s political machinery, deepening grassroots mobilisation, and consolidating support across the state.
Obanikoro, a veteran politician and influential figure in Lagos politics, previously represented Lagos Central in the Senate and later served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana. He is widely regarded as a seasoned political strategist with extensive experience in governance and electoral mobilisation.
His appointment is expected to bolster Hamzat’s campaign with significant political expertise and a strong network of allies across Lagos State and beyond. According to insiders within the campaign, Obanikoro’s emergence as Director-General is expected to enhance the campaign’s visibility, improve coordination among political stakeholders, and strengthen voter engagement efforts ahead of the election.
The development signals an early intensification of political activities ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship race, as alignments and strategic partnerships continue to evolve within the ruling APC in the state.
