Nigeria has ranked one number among the countries with the most deported citizens from India, according to Foreigners Regional Registration Officers (FRROs), the body that maintains records of foreigners who enter the Asian country on valid documents.
In the annual report by the Union Home Ministry for 2023-24, FRROs deported 2,331 foreigners from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, which is the period under review. More than half of the deportees are Nigerians.
Of the total number of people deported from India during the period, 1,470 were Nigerians. The reason for their deportation could have been that they overstayed their visa or flouted visa conditions, among others, the report noted.
Meanwhile, India’s neighbour, Bangladesh, ranked second on the list, with 411 people deported to the country. Another African country, Uganda, with 78 of its citizens among the deportees, ranked third.
